• In 2016, the Port of Montreal launched an innovative project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The PORTal project optimizes the itineraries of trucks at its terminals to reduce their waiting times
• Using Bluetooth technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and license plates, the system measures the travel time of trucks from their entrance into, and exit from the port
• The truck movement information is captured in order to create an overall picture of traffic, congestion points and wait times at various terminals
• This data is then relayed, in real time, to truck drivers and dispatchers through a free web-based or mobile application
• Truck drivers and companies are able to use this information in order to better plan their schedules, optimize their time, and reduce their emissions.
