A CODE OF ETHICS FOR THE USERS OF THE ST.LAWRENCE |
 |
PREAMBLE
The St.Lawrence River is a precious resource that must be protected and enhanced by riverside residents and users alike. Both for its economic and environmental value, the sound health of the St.Lawrence is in everyone’s best interest.
This code of ethics constitutes a moral commitment on the part of its adherents. The general principles proposed answer the broad concerns of sustainable development.
PRINCIPLES
With this code of ethics, adherents recognize:
- That the St.Lawrence is used for a multiplicity of purposes and that these uses are complementary;
- That riverside residents and those who use the River must respect each other’s rights in a spirit of cooperation;
- That they must be vigilant in protecting and improving the St.Lawrence and in ensuring the harmonious and integrated development of all the River’s resources;
- That they must set an example in preventing damage affecting the St.Lawrence and in performing any remedial work required;
- That they must help improve the body of environmental legislation governing the St.Lawrence;
- That they are committed to making known and disseminating this code of ethics within their respective firms or organizations and among associates.
