The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) developed this comprehensive, integrated Business Plan to set out, in one place, its strategic priorities and operational activities. It is an expanded version of the CCG material in the Report on Plans and Priorities for Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) that is tabled in Parliament every year.
2009
This Strategic Plan represents an important step for the Marine Safety program. It identifies four key results to help realize its vision, mission and mandate by promoting a stronger safety culture within the marine community both domestically and internationally. Moving Forward will guide the Marine Safety Program in the implementation of a Safety Management System for operators of Canadian domestic vessels (including small passenger vessels) and in the certification of Canadian vessels engaged in foreign voyages for International Safety Management compliance.

It is the first time that so many organizations have joined their efforts to study the Seaway system, and the first time that such a wide range of issues regarding the economy, the environment and engineering were examined within the scope of one initiative. The Study is investigating the current and possible future role of the GLSLS in both regional and global commercial and transportation networks. Tand the impact of navigation and its operations within the larger context of ecological conditions in the Great Lakes basin and St. Lawrence River.

2004
The Navigation Coordination Committee , who coordinated the study under the St.Lawrence Navigation Plan, was established in 1998. It has a mandate to harmonize the navigation practices of commercial ships and recreational boaters with the goal of protecting St. Lawrence River ecosystems. Twenty-four people from a variety of backgrounds have worked together for a number of years to develop a common strategic vision.
The Ministère des Transports du Québec’s actions in the marine sector are guided by the Québec Marine Transportation Policy, which provides the Québec government with a truly comprehensive transportation plan focused on consistency and multimodality. Various initiatives have resulted from this plan through increased collaboration between Sodes and Transports Québec, including the creation of the Marine Industry Forum and Québec Marine Day.
